Kernel panic -> broken drive

My eMac had a kernel panic while transferring data from another computer to a RAID'ed 2x250GB Formac external hard drive. After the restart, it would not mount anymore. Do you think it can be fixed? If so, how? Thanks in advance.

I can only help you if your iMac ran, or runs OSX.

Method One: Target Disk Mode
If you can find somebody with an iBook or PB, you might be able to transfer the drive contents of the broken computer by doing this:

To transfer files using FireWire:
*Shut down the first computer and leave the second computer on.
*Connect the two computers using a 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable. (If both computers have higher-speed FireWire 800 ports in addition to the standard FireWire 400 ports, you can use a 9-pin to 9-pin cable with the FireWire 800 ports to transfer data at higher speeds.)
*Start up the first computer while holding down the T key.
*A disk icon for the first computer appears on the desktop on the second computer. *Drag files to and from the disk to transfer them.

*When you finish, eject the first computer's disk by dragging its icon to the Trash.
*Push the power button on the first computer to shut it down and disconnect the FireWire cable.

Method 2: Try booting from the restore CD, over instal OSX (don't format the disk). If the drive can be mounted, then copy over the remaining information.

Method 3: Take your Mac to a repair shop.

Method 4: Find a firewire box, pull the drive from your iMac (this is if the data is mission critical, but your low on cash.) See if it can be mounted by another mac.

Sorry, I didn't see that it couldn't be mounted.

Let the drive cool, and try again. Perhaps a Mac repair place will be able to help you. Our local shop charges 65 to see if it can be fixed, then 90 an hour for labor.

Perhaps Norton or DiskDoctor can recover the lost catalog track.
Another possibility, (beyond me) if you were doing a complete drive dump, you might have already copied the catalog information. Perhaps you can resore it.

And I guess that you were running only OS9, as it is marked as a pure HFS+.

haha yes the other thread was me too =) I guess these external hard drives are a bit iffy. It sounds to me like you're talking about the internal hard drive though.. And yes, the solution in the other thread didn't work either. Different problem I guess. Thanks for your help though!

fsck and fsck_hfs both don't work. Techtool doesn't work on unmounted disks. I'm assuming norton and diskwarrior don't either? I think both individual 250gig harddrives are fine. Just using them together, it has lost some data and is therefore screwed.
