My girlfriend just purchased a slightly used Mac Mini from eBay. Everything was running fine until halfway through using migration assistant from to transfer files from her power mac g4, we encountered a kernel panic. After restarting, I decided to just do a fresh install.

DURING the fresh install about half way through, the black screen dropped again with another kernel panic message.

How can I ensure to install a fresh copy of the OS so I can at least get ON the machine and diagnose further?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!:apple:

see if you can read the label under the machine it should show you serial number and model number. also read the 10.5 install disk get the exact osx it is. 10.5.x what is the x

Serial Number: G88484VTYL1

Model Number: A1176

The install disk included is 10.5

I just need to be able to at least reinstall the OS, so I can get the thing working again. I don't understand how the kernel panic is appearing as I am doing a fresh install...

Everything worked fine before I started transferring over files from the old computer using migration assistant. Do you think that had anything to do with it?

A clean install is better when going from ppc to intel. I would take a look at the memory modules to insure they match. Take one out to see if you can get the OS installed as it's possible a ram issue. Also, with the mini running from the OS disk, go into disk utility, format the drive, verify it, the try installing again. If you still have issues, try to install to a external drive. If it does go onto an external, then your internal needs replacing. Let us know how it goes.
