Kernel Panic When Booting From Tiger DVD

hi guys.

i am trying to help out a friend here.

he got this old g4 powermac. he bought a new powermac g5 2,3 dual. after booting up the powermac g5, the g4 powermac was booted in terminal mode.

the files from the g4 was transferred to the g5.

now my friend needs to reinstall the os on the g5 (longer story).

when i boot the g5 from the tiger dvd, i get a kernel panic. i believe a kernel panic is always a hardware problem. can this mean, the superdrive is broken?

i would really appreciate any help, tips or links.

When you hear the chime, hold down apple-s, when its finished loading type....

fsck -f

press return and tell me what happened please.

May I ask why the re-install is needed?

actually, i don't know what is causing the dual 2,3 g5 (with 1 gb ram) to slow down.

my guess is, during the migration, some old stuff is slowing the system down.

it could also be that a buggy software is making the system slow down to a halt.

i would contact you again, when i get the chance.

Another Option

Clean The DVD drive and make sure the DVD didn't get and finger prints, and is clean looking. Use a cd cleaner the lens might have gotten dirty somehow. I had this problem before and after i cleaned the DVD drive it worked fine.
