I am getting my MacBook restarted every time I try to wake it up . Any ideas on what to look at to solve this? I am on latest Big Sur public beta, everything else works fine. I only have this restart issue.

any pointers will be appreciated

There is probably a compatibility issue, with the beta, with one of these that you have installed: promise, highpoint-tech, Areca, SoftRAID, Soundflower, huesync.

any way to tell which of those kexts are based on the OS itself?

I have deleted Soundflower, huesync kexts I found in /Library/Extensions but they still seem to get loaded somehow. will dig deeper

googling com.promise.driver.stex I can see thats its built into the OS so I shouldn't just remove it!

found out I can see which ones are not OS base using

kextstat | grep -v com.apple

I unloaded them using the below, hopefully wont see any more panics

sudo /usr/bin/kmutil unload --bundle-identifier com.lighting.huesync
sudo /usr/bin/kmutil unload --bundle-identifier com.Cycling74.driver.Soundflower

I am experiencing this as well on my 2020 MacBook Air for the first time with latest Big Sur Public Beta; just started with the latest PB/Dev Beta 6.

Same panic message:

Code:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800d286dfa): Wake transition timed out after 180 seconds while calling power state change callbacks.

Doing this same terminal command: kextstat | grep -v com.apple -- I only show Dropbox as non-OS kext, but that hasn't been a problem for prior Big Sur betas.

Hmm. frustrating.

BUG IN CLIENT OF LIBPLATFORM: Trying to recursively lock an os_unfair_lock

Perhaps something related to Time Machine backups... but I realized I had TimeMachineEditor installed to customize/control the backup interval for TimeMachine. Perhaps that is causing an issue now? I have uninstalled TimeMachineEditor and (hopefully) reset Time Machine back to normal. Will update if I experience another kernel panic sleep/wake reboot.

mds_stores is spotlight indexing, maybe it needs a day or so to re-index everything. anyhow I think my problem is solved here. I haven't had any issues. not sure if it was me cleaning the kernel extensions or updating to the latest beta that solved this. fingers crossed, I haven't seen any crashes the last few days.

btw I also disabled "Power Nap" other than cleaning my kernel extensions.
