Hello. There is a problem with macOS Catalina. I'm getting kernel panics 2-3 times a month when resuming from sleep. Like the system restarted during the sleep mode.

I'm using the latest version of macOS Catalina on MacBook Pro 16.

I've attached the error details:

panic(cpu 8 caller 0xffffff801fe16487): "AppleIntelFramebuffer::setPowerState(0xffffff81cf073000 : 0xffffff7fa3406d88, 1 -> 0) timed out after 46017 ms"@/AppleInternal/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-6153.101.6/iokit/Kernel/IOServicePM.cpp:5296

It's very frustrating because I never had this on Mojave, High Sierra/Sierra..

How can I fix this? Many thanks.

No way to fix it, Apple has to fix it. It's a bug connected to he Navi / RDNA and video acceleration drivers that has remained unfixed since October 2019 despite numerous reports to Apple. You can limit the amount of times this happens by disabling power nap. Since these panics occur randomly when waking from sleep, you reduce the likeliness of it happening by reducing the amount of times your machine wakes from sleep.

I was able to "fix" this by installing Amphetamine to make sure my Mac doesn't go into idle. I was getting kernal panics every 10 minutes, now its been stable for almost 48 hours.

Do any of you that have the panics have a NAS mounted or idle on your system?

Unfortunately it was not fixed in the last update for me. I have OS 10.15.5 and it happens virtually every time the machine goes to sleep. I've disabled all the power management settings and it happens whether I am connected to a dock or not.

Very frustrating. Some people have said they took their machines in for logic board and Touch ID replacement and that worked. I'm on hold with Apple; hope I can get this fixed. It is VERY frustrating.

Yep - I get constant kernel panics on my new MBP 16" also. It only happens for me when my MacBook is hooked up to my external monitor and in clamshell mode - I'll get a kernel panic every night like this. I tested for a few days with just using the MacBook alone (not hooked up to my external monitor or other peripherals) and I did not get any kernel panics.

This is very frustrating especially after dropping this kind of $ on a device. I should have kept my 2015 15" MBP - never got a single error/panic on that machine in the 5 years I've had it...

I just encountered this twice this morning when I hooked up my MBP 16" to an external monitor in clamshell mode. I am going to try to turn off power nap to see if it helps.

Wow - I wonder if these kernel panics will continue with macOS Big Sur. I would hope not (didn't Apple rebuild Big Sur from the ground up? If so, hopefully we'll be rid of these kernel panics then. ?)
