Kernel panics

Maybe Apple would do some sort of "Guide" to help people with kernel panic issues?

I would love that. For example, like in ios 9 there was a step by step app with features or "tips and tricks". They could do the same for Kernel panics! My computer feels broken although there is nothing physically wrong with it after it was in service!

Unfortunately I doubt this will ever happen.

1 - The reasons behind why your computer might be having a kernel panic can be vastly huge. It depends on the model, parts used, software installed etc etc. I don't think they'd be able to make a guide big enough for everyone.

2 - If apple were to ever create a doc such as this, they would essentially be admitting that there are a few number of people who do have kernel panic problems. It would be taken by anyone opposed to apple (such as "windows fanboys") exaggerated, and then used to disprove the quality of a mac. It would be a pr nightmare.

Yes they were being less frequent recently, but right now it has escalated again. Not sure if it's due to the last OSX update?

hmmm, maybe. But if its something you do get often then it sounds like a more deep rooted problem. What model mac do you have? And when was the last time you did a clean install of OS X?

It was clean installed by Apple in June after the Apple Store had looked a it's parts and checked for hardware faults. They recommended to bring back individual files from my backup in stead of taking it all back, as they didn't know the root of the problem. Then when I started using it I got panics again.

Was it always related to printing stuff? Or at least related to a specific program that you use? Also, are they apples printer drivers that are being used or 3rd party?

In my opinion, it could very well be to do with your printer. Devices connected to your mac can be a big reason for kernel panics, and if the majority of kernel panics that occurred in the past happened whilst connected to the printer in anyway then it could very much be that.

It's not only applied to any specific activity, that's the tricky part. For example right now, it was related to me putting a header image on my wordpress blog.

It's your Graphics card. Whoever looked at it at the genius bar did a poor job. After a quick google search with your model macbook concerning its GPU it turns out there was a known problem with the GPU in your model that causes kernel panics. There was even a replacement programme (which has unfortunately ended now). Heres the link to another forum post that I found all about it:

Even though the replacement programme is over, if you go to the genius bar, show them this report and their old support page and then kick up a bit of a fuss about how they missed this and its a known problem, then they might still be able to do something about it. Without a doubt in this instance. That log at least stated that a webkit rendering in safari caused the GPU to panic. And as I mentioned, a simple search revealed that it is a known problem with this model. To be 100% sure, it would be good to check previous logs and see if it mentions anything to do with the GPU or graphics in the first few lines like your quoted report.

This is the first few lines of the report you quoted and it specifically mentions a GPU panic. Have a check of any other crash logs and see if look similar to be 100% sure, but I can almost guarantee that this is the problem.

In terms of replacing the gpu, it is soldered onto the logic board, so that would mean a complete logic board replacement. Probably the most expensive kind of repair for a macbook unfortunately. I would only get it replaced if apple offer to do it for free.

Otherwise, it did mention something in that other forum post that I linked about using a program to switch your graphics from your dedicated GPU to the integrated GPU. This would mean you won't have quite as good graphical performance (though possibly negligible difference at the MacBooks age) but you should get no kernel panics anymore.

All kernel panic logs, if recorded, should be found in this directory /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports . To get there easily, go to finder, in the menu bar select go>go to folder... and then copy and paste that directory in. You should be presented with a bunch of files that you can open with textedit. There will more than likely be more than kernel panic logs in there so you might need to search, but they should have the date and time in their file names to make things easier.

As for cost, I'm afraid I have no idea. It would more than likely cost more than the laptop is worth at that age. The only way to find out for sure is to get a quote from apple.

And thats no problem. From what I have briefly researched, most users found that this problem only arrived after installing mavericks and beyond (including yosemite). So if you are really stuck, and you don't mind an older operating system, then you might be able to get a kernel panic free experience if you revert back to mountain lion.

Try something first before you take your computer down to be looked at, uninstall the radiosilenceapp and the globaldelight software you have installed. See if the kernel panics still happen. Just to cover a possibility.

Give it a go and keep them uninstalled for a while and see if that helps. It sounds like you deleted a lot more than just those two extensions. You'll probably need to use system recovery to reinstall your operating system.

No, I just deleted the daemon-agents associated with those two programs, as I didn't want any traces left.

Anyway I restarted and found back my startup hard drive, and now it's fine

I have a sunshine story to tell. It's about my Macbook Pro mid 2010 model. A few weeks ago I sent a mail to Tim Cook adressing this issue, today my computer is in for logic board replacement covered by Apple. My computer is five years old and i don't have apple care. this shows you that asking is never a dumb thing, and that as a company they still take us seriously even after five years from the purchase date. This kind of kills the notion that they would want us to upgrade computer every year.

I'm so content and hope this can give some other kernel-ridden machines a chance against the sea of time.
