I have a glitch where every now and again (maybe happened 3 or 4 times) the keyboard hasn't lit up and I've had to go in to system preferences > keyboard and check/uncheck the "adjust keyboard in low light" box after which it works as it should. Has anyone else had this and know of a fix please?

I'm running a 2021 M1 MBP 16" on OS Monterey 12.6.1

Its an issue that has been impacting many of us for a little while now. I'm on Ventura and I had to go into sys prefs to manually turn on the back lighting for my M1 MBP (14"). Kind of annoying to be sure.

Thanks for the reply. I did search for the issue before posting but didn’t find anything so apologies if it’s already been discussed. If it’s a known problem hopefully Apple will fix it with an update 🤞🏻

Sometimes my keyboard wont light up (MBA_m1'20) when i'm in a sunlight room and the battery is the source.

which could be a batery-power saver setting.

My backlight is off regardless of the room brightness or whether being plugged in or on battery. The only way for me to turn it on, is to use the system preferences and manually adjust the brightness and boom, it turns on

that is weird
seem to be as simple and basic function that we hav been using on out laptops all century long
just to have that not functional is mind scratching!

I don't remember having any problems the brief time using Monterey with the backlit keyboard.
even with the MacBook Pro 2012 using an OCLP, not that this solves any problems.

hope this gets fixed!

Mine behaves like maflynn's too, must be a glitch.
