I have a 9 month old MBP 2019, a2159.. and less than a year of usage, the "COMMAND" key is chipping off. I use a lot shortcut keys, maybe that's the reason? or this is just a known problem?

Btw, went to Apple service centers, and they won't replace the key caps. I have to pay $150 dollars for the new keypad. Really such a bummer knowing that I pay more than a thousand dollars for this machine. I had way way more cheaper laptops before that they did not peel off

Any suggestions how to fix this problem?

Thank you very much.

Surprised they don't see this as their issue when it is still within warranty. I mean it could be something you got on that key that caused it, but equally, it could be a fault in the coating on that one key which will only be made worse, by, using it.

I would push them more and get in touch with Apple head office.

I agree-it's worth pushing them on this and speaking to a senior advisor/supervisor if necessary should the first person you talk to be unable to authorize this repair. I think Apple should fix this under the basic hardware warranty as I consider that to be a defective component.

So, I called Apple back, and this lady transferred me to their Senior Specialist. The Senior Specialist told me the same things over again, that the chipping off of the keypad is not a manufacturing defect and it's purely "cosmetic" and I should cover the cost for the replacement key caps.

Really disappointing! ugh

That is really disappointing to hear and I'm sorry. :(

I would sooo replace your keyboard under warranty if it were up to me.
