I had the problem mentioned in the heading of this thread on my new iPhone 3G 16gig and the ONLY way I was able to fix it was by going to general settings and selecting reset all settings. When the iPhone powered back up, all was working normally again. There is no need to do a restore. Just thought I would let you all know just in case. Good luck.
 
This happened on mine as well. I went into settings and toggled the key click sounds off and then back on and it fixed it.
 
I tried to follow both suggestions but still not working. I also did a full restore and nothing... Anyone else have any suggestions?
