Im new to MacBook Pro and to Mac’s in general. I’m a fairly heavy keyboard user and use shortcuts a lot, though I’m obviously still learning some of the macOS ones.

One issue I am continually “fighting” with is the MacBook keyboard has the fn in the bottom left, whereas that’s not the case for external keyboards (I'm using mx keys). I find it screwing up my muscle memory of using the bottom left-most key, along with sometimes awkwardly pushing a finger inwards to hit the control key.

Surely I’m not the only one facing this issue/annoyance? Is there anything people do to manage it, those of you who regularly switch between the built-in and an external keyboard?

I don't use fn all that much but yeah, it's a bit of a pain when you need "Control" and it's not where it was. I don't have any particular advice other than "hold your tongue just right" to get the proper keystrokes.

You can remap modifier keys in the Keyboard settings of system preferences and you can also do it by keyboard BUT then what’s printed on your keyboard may not be correct, and to me that’s even worse, so as someone who also switches between external and internal keyboards and Mac and Windows layouts, I just put up with it. A bit annoying but it gets easier after a while.
