I guess this is no bug.
The written language is not really connected to a country/flag.
Like canada has english and french layouts but only one flag.
So it sort of makes sense to change that.
And even though I don't like looking at a flag all the time, I don't like the change as it removes even more color from the UI. Which might be Apple's reason to do it in the first place.
