Keyboard/Mouse Combo Question

I was hoping to see what options I have out there for a bluetooth keyboard/mouse. I've looked at logitech, but they're either predominately microsoft or aren't bluetooth and don't have drivers (intel). Non-apple please.

Anybody got suggestions??

I know that this logitech keyboard says "PC REQUIREMENTS" but does that mean mac is uncompatible (features aside?). The model I'm referring to is the Logitech MX5000 Cordless Desktop (with Bluetooth). If it kind of works, which features are working on Macs?

Now for the price of 108.24 (tax/shipping included), is it worth purchasing this over a Mac-compatible logitech combo? The non-Bluetooth Logitech S530 is priced at 79.95 (tax/shipping included).

Any input would be nice.

i have a friend that used a logitech mouse/keyboard on her 17" powerbook. i'm not sure what model it was, except i know at least that it wasn't bluetooth. in my experience none of the keyboard's extra feature buttons work on a mac, excepting maybe the volume. and looking at this model here that you linked, i'm inclined to think that it especially won't work on a mac. plus it would be a little awkward in os x to have a windows key and a different layout with the cmd/ctrl/alt/fn keys. if i were you, i would go with the apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard. i have both and find them absolutely perfect. then again, i'm guessing you probably already have an apple mouse and keyboard and are looking for something different. i have a similar logitech setup to the one you're looking at on my windows box. and honestly, a lot of the extra buttons are just crappy gimmicks that ultimately aren't all that worthwhile.

Considering that it is made for PC, the screen on the keyboard probably wouldn't work and neither would that remote thingy that comes out of the keyboard.Because of this alone, I think it defeats the purpose of even buying the keyboard. Here is a very nice keyboard made by Logitech for the Mac.

Yeah, i was looking at logitech's mac wireless combo but i really wanted a bluetooth wireless set, that's why i was holding back on the non-bluetooth one. do any of you know the range on the wireless one then? Somewhere between 20 and 10 would seal the deal for me.

I've got no idea what the Logitech people were thinking when they decided to make the Mac desktop-combo non-bluetooth. That's gonna drive away a number of newish mac owners who don't want an extra stick to stick out of their mac. Even more on a laptop.

Actually, I bought it because it wasn't bluetooth. I wanted to share it between two computers, one of which didn't have bluetooth.

Do a search on this forum because one member (above me, found him ) bought the S530 and sent it back as it had a lot of problems. Also look on Amazon at the reviews, fair but not great and last...no drivers for any Intel Macs yet so the extra buttons don't work.
I really like the upper level of keyboards made by Logitech it's just I want the same quality to use on my Mac. Someday it will happen, someday
I should note that the person that was teaching me some Flash stuff had a MS natural shaped keyboard that was Mac compatable. He did have to change some things around to get the keys close to the Mac layout, program wise but what a nice keyboard.

I'm looking for an intel-compatible BLUETOOTH keyboard and mouse combo. Aside from Apple's, can anyone tell me which ones you have and/or suggest anything of that criteria?

I am typing this post on a Microsoft Optical Desktop 5000 (non-bluetooth). It says on the packaging that it's Windows-only, but when I was in Dixons yesterday, I noticed that they're selling the Optical Desktop 4000 for the same price, but it comes with a worse mouse and lacks the included Windows photo editing software. I couldn't see the point in buying a worse product for the same money, so I downloaded the drivers recommended for the '4000' set, and they work fine for the '5000' set. Wireless reception isn't totally dependable, but I think it'll be fine for use with my new Intel Mini which will be in the lounge.

I had a couple of minutes where I couldn't figure out how to override the MS-offered functions for the function keys F9 - F11, but I eventually realised that these can be turned off by using the F-lock key. I couldn't be without my Expose functionality nowadays.

I do realise why you'd prefer the bluetooth route though. This dongle is big and ugly.

The only other downside is that there's no Command key signified on these keyboards, as they're marketed as for Windows. I might just paint some on.
