Hi

I'm wondering whether you guys play with the keyboard or with game controller ?
Which is the best game controller to buy ?

thanks

When developing and playing other 2D games - Wired Xbox 360 controller.
Anything else - Mouse and keyboard.

Or simply when a game requires precision I'll use the mouse and keyboard, which could be a 2D game.

It totally depends on the game...mostly keyboard+mouse, because that's what computer games are designed for (especially fps/rts/strategy), but some games are better with a gamepad (primarily platformers).

It's good to have "options." :)

Here's what you should have:
A mouse that's not designed by Apple.
Game pad for platformers, games like Devil May Cry 4.
Flight stick if you like flight/space simulators
Wheel if you're into racing.

If you play a FPS with a gamepad, you're setting your self up for FAILURE! You guys are so unbelievably EASY to pick off in FPSs. :D

Don't you find the D-Pad awful? I tried playing Super Mario World on the SNES emulator to test the controller and Mario kept crouching when I was trying to move forward, I had to be very careful to use the edge of my thumb to press right on the d-pad, very annoying.

Other than that, the controller is pure bliss, especially on Games For Windows titles, for the rest, Pinnacle Profiler does the job just fine.

Also I agree with JackAxe, playing FPSs with a gamepad is like playing an RTS with one hand and a 1 button mouse. Gamers deserve better.

I just use the analogue stick, that dpad is pretty dire. If it's ever needed I just use GlovePie and a Classic Controller for a good 2D dpad. But I'm using analogue on a game I'm making, it's still 2D but supports different speed walking.

Wired Apple thin keyboard, Microsoft/Razer Habu and wired 360 controller is my setup.

Kinda wish there was a way to plug a Classic Controller directly into a PC, hate using wireless controllers. Maybe it's OCD but I just keep thinking about how much battery power is left

That's not OCD, that's just being retarded. :)

LOL, your mouse is CHEEESE! :D I like MS mice though. There was a period of time they were too wide, but overall, they design a good product. Unlike Apple's complete abandoment of ergonomics since they introduced the evil hockey puck mouse.

Where's your flight stick?

It's a proper comfy mouse though! Great for work and play. I've never used side buttons on any mouse though so they're kinda wasted on me. And the blue glow is best turned off :D it's got a great weight to it and good weight distribution too.

Flight Stick! Haven't had one of them for years. We settled on some gyroscope hand controller. Kinda like the Powerglove that was really ace for flying games.

But the blue is the best part. :p My old IBM mouse had a blue scroll wheel. My little Space Navigator glows blue, along with my entire PC.

Side buttons are an absolute must for my mice. All of my 3D programs require 3 buttons. I set the thumb button to my middle-click. This has saved me from carpal tunnel. Using the scroll-wheel button almost killed me.

Gyroscope! Are you crazy?! The best joysticks for flight are the 3-axis. When I was younger, I had the CH Flight Stick, CH FS Pro, and Thrust Master metal beast. I'm going to get another CH FS Pro, I've just beem too cheap. I read they're still good, but not as good as the older models.

keynboard and mouse...although i wish i could find a good blue tooth game pad for mac :(
i had the xbox 360 pc one, and it didnt work for halo so i returned it, cause hte mac driver sucked

Why on earth would you torture yourself with the Xbox controller to play Halo on a computer?

But then again, Halo was too easy on a PC. It's difficulty, even on the hardest setting, was sad.

You and I think quite alike JackAxe :D

I've got a PC mini gamepad and I was wondering how to get it running on OSX, I'm running Snes9x and I doesn't see the gamepad. It's just a generic HID gamepad.

Please help. Super Mario 3 just sucks with the keyboard.

If SnesX9 can't see it, you'll need to use a program like ControllerMate.

It's an excellent app all around and was well worth $15. I use it for things other than my joysticks.

Super Mario 3 is awesome on a Wii with a Classic Controller. ;)
