Just wondering if you guys has ever had a problem with the MBP's palm rest, trackpad or keyboard area getting stained, discolored, or scratched? How sensitive is the MBP when it comes to these things? I was thinking whether buying covers for those areas are worth it. I think they're fugly, but if it means making your MBP stainless or scratch resistance, then I'm for it.

no problems

I have never had a problem with my macbook pro getting stained or scratched. You would only have to be worried if you had a macbook that is white. But just wash your hands before use and you will be fine.

I use the Marware palm rest cover. I like it because that area gets a little warm under where the hard drive is and having the cover over it makes it not as warm. Plus I wear watches and bracelets and I don't want it to get scratched. :)

i'd be wary of the marware personally.... have heard bad things about trying to take it off. I use an iskin arctic keyboard cover, the palm rests are easy enough cleaned once in awhile with iklear or such - felt the keyboard protector was important for me cuz i didn't want stuff getting in between the keys (hard to clean).

Same here. The palm rest cover is quality and doesn't detract from the look/feel of the MBP either.
It has a light adhesive backing so I can't imagine it will be too hard to remove from an aluminium surface, especially with a bit of alcohol solution or similar but I haven't tried yet, won't be for a long time i hope.

I found the Keyboard cover that comes with it in the Marware Protection Pack to be crap though, it has a ribbed edging all the way round and does not lie flat (everything was heavily folded inside the packaging.

This ribbed edge would seriously concern me it would come into contact with the screen when lid closed and the whole thing won't stop anything getting inbetween keys, if anything it may help pool crud into it.

I quit using the marware keyboard cover after I saw that it was leaving marks on my screen but the palm rest cover is nice because it keeps me from having to clean that area all the time since I use it in school.

I know what you mean! I have an iSkin keyboard cover (separate from my Marware palm rest cover) and I quickly found out it was leaving hard-to-remove marks and smears on the screen. It may be the plastic from the keyboard cover or the oil from my fingers soaking through the cover and smearing all over the screen when I close the laptop, but it was too much of a hassle frequently cleaning the screen so I took off the keyboard cover altogether.

Something everyone should consider getting to protect their screen

That is why I got one of these:

I didn't like the small size of the marware cover. Seriously, it's useless. This piece of fabric can shield your screen from any palm rest and keyboard covers you have.

I have had one since the day I got my first mb. You can wash it, clean it and it's still good as new. (It will shrink if you put in the dryer.)

Or you can always just go to the fabric store and cut a piece of fleece or something.

NOTE: Get the BIG full size one that covers the whole screen, not the "universal one".

Anyone used Moshi palm rests before? How are they like? I have seen friends with marware palm rest that gets kinda ugly and dirty over time, and you can't get rid of the stains.
