Keyboard problem with message boards

One of the forums I participate in does not work with the iPad. When you touch the open text box to type a reply to a thread a grey highlight bar appears but nothing else happens. It is impossible to get the keyboard to show up or the text cursor to appear.

Is this a known problem and is there a work around?
