keyboard usb extension

I searched, but couldn't find the answer for this...

My desk configuration for my imac includes a keyboard tray. I am contemplating just not using it, however it really does put the keyboard in a more natural place for me to sit correctly. If I want to use the wired keyboard though, I will obviously need some type of usb extension. I have read these came with the old keyboards, but they don't come with the new ones. Does anyone know where I can find one that is compatible with the aluminum keyboard?? Would the extenders that came with the old Mac keyboards work (in case i can find one on ebay or something)???

The only downside that may occur is that some devices now no longer work when plugged into the keyboard USB port. I was using a USB extension cable (a thin one admittedly) for my iMac keyboard, and while my Mighty Mouse would work when plugged into the keyboard, my USB flash drive would not. Apparently the drive would not get enough power from the keyboard USB port. Once I removed the extender everything was fine. I would prefer NOT to use the USB ports on the back or on a hub I have (way behind the iMac) as it's much more convenient to just plug the drive into the keyboard. The USB ports on the back of the iMac are on the side of the machine that is right up against a wall, so I would have to move it each time.

I may try a heavier duty extender cable...

Easier to use a powered USB hub. Then 1 usb cable into your computer and it acts as an extension.
