Was it the first time in your life you encountered the smell of plastic?
If yes then I would imagine it smells strange.
My keyboard smells, when I put my nose close to it, just what it is made of: aluminium (almost odorless, but still definitely metal) and plastic, the keys still have that 'new' smell on them.
