If you have to buy your new iMac from one of the retail stores rather than online you will no doubt have had worries about the keyboard.

With the small keyboard bundled many stores will not allow the option of a larger keyboards. Some people have posted here however that some stores where swapping out keyboards for them, others even managed to get a free full size keyboard sent to them after calling apple and complaining.

I'm hoping people will post their keyboard experiences here along with the apple store they visited to help build up a reference list for others in this situation.

I'll start by saying the apple store in Liverpool ONE , will not, under any circumstances swap out keyboards.

The Apple store in Kingston (UK) will swap the keyboard for you. They seemed very happy to do it. They were running very low on stock though.

Hope this helps.

I tried calling Apple Sales Support and she told me to ask my local retail store. So I called my local retail store (Willowbrook, NJ) and she told me that the big keyboards are more expensive than the small ones (which I knew was false) so she couldn't give me a replacement (or let me pay the "difference" in price).

She told me I would have to just buy a new one for the $40 or whatever it was.

I'm still dealing with this tiny keyboard and I hate it. I already changed the mouse to my old PC mouse.

I love the willowbrook apple store its so much bigger than my local one in Rockaway nj but atleast the willowbrook one is only 20 minutes further.

When buying my Imac (which arrives tommorow!) I tried to upgrade to the wireless keyboard in store, but they wouldnt accept it, as they came bundled with the wired one, so i would have had to order online and wait for 5 - 7 days as it was built to order. Which i did.
Sounds crazy, but they said it was cos of a shortage of the keyboards!
Thats glasgow, Scotland.

Picked up a 24" 2.8GHz iMac on clearance in Corte Madera CA last week and they would not swap it out for me. They told me it would without a doubt have the small keyboard in the box. However when I got home it was the large keyboard thankfully.

One of the big reasons I'm getting an iMac is because I simply can't stand laptop keyboards. The last thing I want is one fo those crappy keyboard on my desktop too.

I'm in Toronto and the Apple store at Sherway and the Eaton Centre would not swap the keyboards when I inquired.

I begged :(

i don't have any experience with a new imac and tiny keyboard.

Another reason to dislike is it doesn't look good with a 24" imac.

However, after doing my taxes the otehr day...I LOVE my FullSize keyboard.

Does anyone have any ideas (things to say, anything?) of ways to convince Apple to switch the keyboard for me?

I really hate this thing and do NOT want to pay $40 for a new keybaord after I just spent all this money for a computer with a crappy keyboard.

Well i should be picking mine up on saturday. I will give it another try on the day and if they say no then i will note the staff members name and promptly phone the apple hotline when i get home to see what can be done.

If i need a certain keyboard size that they do offer as a free option but a member of staff in store did not allow me to swap for one then i wont hang up till the problem is resolved.

Bought mine in portland apple store and they gladly exchange mine for the full keyboard they had in stock.

I'm glad the stores are exchanging for the opposite reason. I bought a refurb imac, but I want a small keyboard. Maybe I can swap it out at the local Apple Store seeing as how they should have some compact keyboards laying around. :)

When I got my new iMac, they took the slim keyboard out and gave me a full retail boxed keyboard free. They didn't have a problem with that. I had an awesome Specialist. :D This was at the Salt Lake City, UT Apple Store. They're awesome there.

That's interesting, I did the total opposite thing. :D

I actually went out and bought the small keyboard to pair with my 24-inch iMac. After giving my dad the wireless alu. keyboard, I couldn't go back and used the fullsize keyboard.

This thread inspired me. I called up Apple sales, told them that I bought a new iMac in a retail store, and asked him to exchange. He called up my retail store and the lady said the same thing as I was told last week, "We can't do anything about it."

I told her that I was unhappy with the keyboard and read on various forums that other retail stores were replacing them for free. She kept on insisting that they couldn't do anything. I asked to speak with her manager and she said, "Hold on one second." About 2 minutes later, she came back on and said, "It's fine, bring in the mini keyboard and your receipt and we'll exchange it for you.

Now I'm typing on the much more comfortable full-sized keyboard :)

peach mac near me said they were ordering some with the bigger keyboard

ended up just ordering mine from apple

then the next week i went to best buy to look around and they said they would of given me one with the bigger keyboard

Well i managed to pick up mine today thanks to getting some free time. The sales person went back and checked then came and told me that some people have gotten in trouble for offering fullsize keyboard swaps and that they cannot do it.

I have a feeling he didn't really check though. guess i'll be calling apple tommorow.

This machine is near perfect but i hate not having those extra buttons.
