All of my data, passwords etc have disappeared from my keychain. I called tech support and went to an Apple store and they have no explanation. I had some very sensitive information in there and I am extremely concerned. Any comments?

Do you backup your computer?
What are the files located in User/Library/Keychains?

Not often enough, the tech guy was able to find some of my keychain on my external hd, but I am worried about how:confused: it dissappeared! They tell me there is no log for this He said the keychain might have been corrupted, he created a new one and painfully ( he didn't know how and tried many things) transferred the data to the new keychain.
Prior to this happening for weeks Mail was constantly asking for my outgoing and incoming pass word AND my keychain login, if i didn't quit or force quit mail these pop ups continued even if I was off in another program. He supposedly fixed this and low and behold it continues. If I understand this correctly the incoming outgoing pass words are stored in keychain, but why does it continually ask for them????

Do you know what type of account you have? Admin, Network or standard?
Do new keychain passwords populate when you agree to have the password saved?
You could have some permissions problems to your User/Library folders or Keychain folder. Seen this a few times.
Go yo users/Library/Keychains and do a "Get info".
Do you see your account with read/write access? Is it set to allow no one else?
Press the cog wheel "action" button and "Apply to enclosed Items". Log out and back in. If you get a warning at log in about keychain it is because your passwords are not in sync.

This happened to me after I changed my computer login password on my macbook and I couldn't find an answer online so I will post the solution that worked for me here.

  1. Open up keychain app on macbook
  2. Go to file-add keychain
  3. It should open up automatically to a folder called Keychains
  4. There will be a bunch of 'keychain' items and some will probably be called something like: login.keychain or mlogin_renamed_2.keychain-d
  5. Basically, I just tried adding a few of these keychains (which had a recently modified file date) and one of them contained all my old keychain passwords.
  6. FYI It had nothing to do with Icloud login for keychain. All of these password I had entered manually into keychain at one point in time.
