Keychain Misery in Mountain Lion

Is there a way to permanently disable, or otherwise satisfy Keychain access so I don't have to enter my password for (almost) every application I use, every time I use it?

Is it a bug? Did I mess up my permissions?

BTW... have have repaired my permissions and verified my Startup Volume and all is fine, but Keychain is still acting like a hungry hungry hippo.

Open Keychain app then command-comma to open Prefs and make sure it is set like in my screenshot. You may have that last box unchecked and the Keychain is locking on its own.

Also ensure that #2 option is checked, otherwise Keychain may not be unlocking at login.

My keychain first aid already matched your screenshot.

I've had to hard power off a bunch of times because my Mountain Lion is also wacky and freezes all the time so maybe that messed things up. I ran keychain repair several times.

The last time I powered on (after a hard power off) I got a keychain request before even getting to the desktop.

My Certificates OCSP and CRL are set to Best Attempt and Priority is set to OCSP.

Both boxes in General are unchecked.

So annoying... what is the keychain for?

It stores certificates that are used to validate legit websites and also stores all your passwords like for Mail app and web pages.

I wonder if this is more related to the other freezing issues you are seeing than anything with Keychain.

Try a command-r boot to recovery and start Disk Utility and do a repair disk and see what you get there.

Also try running the Apple Hardware Test and se if that turns up anything.

I tried to use Apple Hardware Test but it doesn't engage when I reboot and press D. I downloaded an AHT package and no luck. I also rebooted into the recovery partition and verified my drive, volume and permissions and it was all fine.

I've also noticed that Safari doesn't work at all. It opens but just renders white blank pages, but the sites are underneath because if I click on the screen it opens different URLs of the links that are there... very weird.

I think I should have done a "clean" install of Mountain Lion... I was lazy and didin't feel like re-installing a million applications, but I might have to.
