Keynote Mirroring on iPad

I bought my iPad primarily to give presentations.
Unfortunately, when connected to a projector via the VGA adaptor, the iPad does not show the presentation. I.e. it doesn't mirror the output but instead, it displays a slide counter (1 of 9). Its completely useless.

Is there a work-around?

jailbreak and install "display out" from the cydia store... mirrors the ipad to the projector

or

there is an app called 2screens

but personally I like the jailbreak method better.. that is how I have been teaching my college class since I got my ipad.
