Keypad entry not recognized & displayed

Hi, I have a MBP 2.4 upgraded to leopard.
I've recently encountered 2 problems:

(1) Screen and mouse froze on me. Nothing that I did could bring it back. Had to hard shut down.

(2) Mouse works fine but typing on fields (or anything) did not work. I was able to open Safari but typing on the search fields, nothing was echoed back. It's like the keypad froze. Had to restart.

Any ideas why these issue happened? Are they due to leopard? Is there anything I could do to avoid issues like this? Like not clicking too quickly?

heard this was a common issue. my keyboard froze once, but never since. download 10.5.1, and call apple care if it happens again.
