Killall Not working for me for any process regardless of ownership

Killall Finder gives me the stupid message saying that the Finder process does not belong to me (or any process whatsoever whether it be google chrome, safari, mail, office).

No matching processes belonging to you were found

Ownership

bbrowder@Benjamins-MacBook-Pro ~ % ps aux | grep finder   

bbrowder           635   0.0  0.0  4277496    680 s000  S+    9:16PM   0:00.00 grep finder

Safari, dock, mail app and others all give the identical error. When running under sudo, command fails as well, and gives a similar error.
