As with any and every computer corporation there will always be lemon models, the truth is, the only reason it seems like there are so many people with lemons here is we are all devoted mac users who have come together in one place, many come here to get help for the problems they are having.

Truth is, I bet less than 5-10 percent of all the new Intel Macs even have the "minor" glitches. Sure there have been recalls for the big issues, like discoloration and bad batteries, but I don't think it is as huge of an issue as many people make it out to be.

Now before you start freaking out and saying WTF is up with this thebeephaha dude, take this into consideration. If your machine does have a problem you are entitled to have it fixed or replaced if you take the time to do something about it before your warranty is up. And yes, I know you expect that when your paying potentially several thousand dollars for a product you want it perfect. I do too, but theres perfect, and then theres being unreasonable. If Apple were to hand inspect every machine and nit-pick like we do, they would spend weeks just getting several hundred machines out of their factories.

My MacBook Pro is not perfect, but then again, neither has ANY OTHER COMPUTER I have ever owned.

My machine has weird warped spots in all the usual sections, above the superdrive slot, etc, etc. Does this really affect it's performance? Nope. My former PC computers have each had their quirks too. From eMachines, to Dell, to IBM, to meticulously researched parts for my custom builds, there has always been some little annoyance.

Computers are not perfect, on occasion one will get a grade A specimen but, when something is mass produced, there is always a margin of error that is within "acceptable parameters".

Anyways, I just thought I'd rant on peoples ranting about stuff wrong with their machines. I understand, my heart bleeds for you, but don't b*tch to us! Ask us for advice, but please, don't go on tangents saying Apple is total crap or your so mad you bought this or this. That kind of attitude is not going to get you anywhere.

Peace, love, don't beat me, etc. :D

I agree with you, however I'd like to add on that I think the WORST posts are the "I bought a Core Duo and now six months later the C2D is out and I think Apple should replace my machine for freeee." ones. Sheesh. Grow up already.

I believe that most people know the truth or at least, realise that few of the machines are actually having problems. It's just that complaints are louder than praises.

I was concerned enough about the machines when I bought mine that I bought a refurbished model. I avoided any problems and got a nice discount.

There seem to be a lot of software problems for Intel-based machines, as well as hardware problems. It's probably not as bad as it seems but there definitely seem to be more than with the PowerPC-based machines. Mac OS X ran for a long time on a lot of machines and it seems like the quirks are few now. Hopefully, in the next point release or two, things will be quite a bit better for everyone and Leopard will bring about a huge, positive change for the Intel-based machines.

It would be nice to have more happy faces around here.

I will agree. A lot of people state on this board/forum that they spent X amount of money and expect a lot of things to be perfect. I am one of those people but I will admit my fault.

Apple products have become more and more popular. Every Keynote we see, we see laptop popularty increase therefore that does sacrifice quality control. As stated above, if you have a fault with your product, you can take advantage of that one year warrenty to get the problem resolved. If the problem is not able to get resolved, and there are many complaints, organize a petition then to voice the concern.

Oh, I'll also add (again) that I think the best way to have phrased your original post would have been through sarcasm. Permit me to demonstrate.

So, today I got my brand new package of Kedem Tea Biscuits from the store, but when I took them home, I realized the top biscuit had a piece broken off of it! It pisses me off that I spent 79 cents on these so called "premium" tea biscuits, and they don't even hold together as well as (other brand) biscuits, which are only 50 cents! How can Kedem expect me to buy their products if they can't even be bothered to do minimal quality control!?

Do you think that if I return these to the store, that Jewel-Osco will give me a free pack of the Lemon flavored biscuits instead of these Chocolate ones? I really think they should, since this whole thing has turned my life upside-down! I bet (insert other biscuit brand) would have replaced these chocolate ones with no questions asked!

Rock on dude! :D

You said it well. Its all too easy for some to bash Apple, it seems to be something that occurs with the better brands, I believe its rooted in envy.

Those experienced know better and have a balanced view. We understand that its a small percentage that must be expected with innovation and rapid development leading to rapid delivery to market.

Most of us know that nothing is perfect. Not even Apple. Thankfully, a majority of Apple's products are pretty good, with only a few exceptions.

YMMV.

At the same time, I know three people with MacBooks, and one with a MBP, and none have had any problems at all. It's really the luck of the draw. I think Apple might have had more problems with the Intel transition than they normally might have, but I also think that if you search the forums, people are actively trying to find problems with their computers to whine about. I remember a few weeks ago there was someone who was determined to find faults in his LCD, even though he didn't see anything wrong with it. I think the OP is right to be kinda few up here and I have to say - lighten up people. They're computers.

You might be a bad luck to your friends. (just kidding).

I have my MBP and my friends have 2 MB and iMac, all of them are perfect. Except the fact that all of them didn't come with arabic keyboards. :p

Why do people even spend a whole day posting junk asking what they should do because the A on the keyboard doesnt work on their macbook anymore. It looks like people would have a brain bigger than a peanut. How smart do you have to be to have a warranty and not know to call Apple and they will fix it? Instead they have to post and get 20 people to reply saying call Apple. Laptops come with a warranty with a reason people on a forum arent going to come to your house and fix is for you. Some people act like it pains them so much to call Apple when they spend more time to bitch about it instead of fixing it. Also all the should I wait posts are getting little anoyying now. Should I wait 4 years for the new Apple laser mouse to come out or buy my computer now??? Come on surely you can make decisions for yourself or read the previous 100000 posts on Should I wait to buy whatever. Technology isnt slowing down if you want it buy it if you wait you will never buy anything there is always a new and better something.

Typically I would agree with this post.

Then I got a Rev. A MBP with all the problems (random shutdown, multiple restart, sleep problems, etc.)

I did all the research I could - on here and other places. I did end up getting it fixed under warranty.

And now the sleep problems are back.

This board is a resource. I don't want or expect sympathy for the few problems I've had with my computer. But I do want information and help, and this is a great place to get it.

With this great resource come the whiners and elitists, and those in between. But I'm willing to put up with that if it makes me a more educated consumer.

I will chime in that no one I know, nor any of the macs I have bought for my company have any issues at all. nothing, nadda.

First off, wow, I'm actually surprised at everyones reactions, pretty much agreeing with me, I didn't expect that really.

Funny story, after I posted, the next day the Seagate Momentus 100GB drive in my MacBook Pro crapped out on me, no joke. Good thing I make backups. The thing is, it isn't Apple's fault it died, they didn't make the drive, thats Seagate's mishap. Sure at the moment I was kinda pissed but later today I'm off to the Apple store to drop her off for service, and while I'm there I may or may not bother to point out some of the other "faults".

I've had my computer for 7ish months, I use it HARD, it is my main computer for everything, from photo and video editing, to school work for college, to bootcamping into windows to play games. It has most likely been on over 75% of it's life span so far and I've had absolutely no issues besides this.

I'd say out of 10, I'd give my MacBook Pro experience a 9/10, I use it like a computer and nothing more. And as a computer goes, it does what it is supposed to do and does it while looking sexy too.

See people, its not hard to have a issue come up and NOT go cry and scream about it. :p

I was also thinking of going refurbished also. How do you like yours? (as far as the quality of a refurbished) I have never bought a refurbished or know anyone that has one. I am thinking of getting c2d refurbished 17" when those become available, so just curious.

Well only bring it in if you have an issue, for me the hard drive died and I did nitpick some other things, my case is a little wonky in some spots, but they said those would delay the repair so I just opted for them to swap the hard drive.

They were nice about it, didn't question me about anything, I did have to wait in the store a little longer than I'd have liked but it was kinda busy. One guy was there with a swollen and most likely oozing MBP battery.
