Kinda of a werid question...

Is there any way the new Mac mini will connect to a SDTV? What I want out of my mac mini is to basically have an all in retro game system (NES, SNES, N64, GEN, PSX, etc) all through the use of emulators. My real consoles are on the verge of death and this is just much more convenient. As for why I want it on an SDTV, I've played some retro games on big HDTV's and its pretty bad.

There might be, maybe:
HDMI to coaxial?
HDMI to RCA?

Why can't you lower the resolution on your Mac to give it the old TV flavor?

Some emulators allow you to better emulate the TV output, have you played with that?

I should mention I actually do not have any Mac's right now, but too answer the questions anyway, just having the emulator in a tiny window would kinda defeat the purpose here.

Scratch that, found something new.

This site here (http://macmost.com/forum-mac-mini-to-a-sdtv.html) has someone claiming success in the comments sections by buying the VGA Adapter for the mini then getting a vga-video converter. Would the same thing work if instead of a vga-video converter, I got a vga-rca cable?

Alright, I'm basically stumped but here's some more detail on my TV.

It only has Red Yellow White and Red Blue Green outlets. If any of these can be used to connect the new Mac Mini to my tv with sound and video, please post methods and such.

The red/yellow/white output it really a video/audio L/audio R. So you need an HDMI to S-video input, and a headphone (or HDMI) to L/R audio input (I forget what it's called). It's definitely doable with the right adapters.

Why would I get a S-video cable when my TV doesnt have a S-video output?

It's a RCA if that helps.
 
just so you know, emulators on Mac OSX aren't nearly as good as PC based ones. or at least in my experience

Try this one made for the Playstation, for $13.

Red, green and blue are composite video inputs. Red and white are stereo audio, and yellow is analog video (which you do not need to use because of the composite video).

One of the current Mac mini has the following video specs:

AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memory
Thunderbolt port with support for up to 2560 by 1600 resolution
HDMI port with support for up to 1920 by 1200 resolution
DVI output using HDMI to DVI Adapter (included)
Support for dual display and video mirroring

DVI to Composite or Component connections are feasible.
I believe that by doing it this way only the video will be pass through, so you will need also an audio cable.

Audio

Audio line in minijack (digital/analog)
Audio line out/headphone minijack (digital/analog)
HDMI port supports multichannel audio output
Support for Apple iPhone headset with microphone
Built-in speaker

Headphone minijack to the kind of input you want to use in the TV.

I insist, why can't you use the large screen TV and have the emulator in Full Screen, and adjust the video resolution from the emulator as well as in your Mac Display preferences?

Anyway, it is feasible to connect a CRT TV to the Mac Mini.
