Hello.
I've heard that there is a cheaper way to upgrade the RAMs on the iMac.
The memory is a Kingston brand or something similar if existent.
To buy it from apple (4GB) it's about 850$, the Kingston suppose to be much more cheaper.
It's important to me that the installation (hardware&software as well) will be not so complicated, I'm a regular user, not a robot that knows only to open safari but also not a geek, or in other words, that I'll not have to come & cry on the forum :D
Last thing, that thing keep the warranty in validity ?

ThanX a lot.

p.s.:sorry for any spelling mistakes.

Forget about buying Apple memory unless you have tons of money just sitting around. Click on the link below they are your best bet I would go out on a limb and say millions have bought Ram from these folks.

Never buy Apple from RAM. Only buy RAM from a company which guarantees 100% Mac-compatibility and has a lifetime warranty on their product. Installing 3rd party RAM does not void your warranty.

I highly recommend you review our RAM Guide here on MacRumors.

There you go.......$119 for 4GB....Lifetime warranty

On PC's, it was generally accepted that you needed to re-install the OS to get the best out of extra RAM.

Does this apply to Macs, too? I've just bumped from 1gb to 4gb and it hasn't had the impact I expected.

How about 4GB of Kingston ValueRAM for $100, after two $8 mail-in rebates?

I'm looking for RAM for the iMac I just ordered. The buy.com site doesn't say what the warranty is - is it lifetime on these?

Any comments?

NOTE: This appears to be labeled as "laptop" memory? When you search for iMac memory on kingston's website it brings you to a different product, costing much more and found at buy.com here:

But I can't tell what the difference is. Are these actually the same memory? One of the user reviews on the cheaper product above says it worked fine in an iMac.

Well, I ended up going with the Crucial RAM from Newegg.com linked above. $120, but if you pay via PayPal there is a 20% rebate offer that started today at participating etailers including Newegg. So that's $24 off. Good deal.
