Kirin 985 to be mass-produced with 5G modems

Looking forward to that Mate 30 Pro even more now...

Last month we heard rumors that the Huawei Mate 30 could be the first smartphone with a chipset built on the EUV process, and now media representatives in Taiwan confirm the information. Not only that, but Huawei’s chip manufacturer HiSilicon will implement 5G modem in all the chips, effectively making all future Huawei flagships 5G-compatible.

The new processor will be manufactured using the FC-PoP method (FlipChip Package-on-Package), which allows vertical stacking of transistors. Combined with the Extreme UltraViolet process, the transistor density will be increased by 20% - this means better chip performance and lower energy consumption.

I'm sorry for asking this question again, but what is the different between the Huawei Mate series and P series?

I'm in the U.S. and these phones aren't available here. Honestly, I'm really kind of surprised that Huawei doesn't offer them here even without carrier support. I guess they figure that without the ability to get whitelisted on Verizon and Sprint's networks it isn't worth the effort.

Thank you, HEALER FLAME. But that actually did more harm than good. I don't know how I would ever be able to choose between the two. I guess Huawei is really doing me a favor by not offering their phones in the U.S.

Edit: If the Mate series is the flagship series, shouldn't it be released before the P series? I looks like the P30 was released before the Mate 30.

Both are flagships.

P series is a flagship focused on Photography, while the Mate series brings brand new chips, new Display (with Higher resolution) and other internal improvements. Typically the Mate series brings the same camera the P series debuted earlier in the year.

The Pserie internal hardware is always the based on the previous year Mate series, e.g. The P30 Pro brought a whole new camera system, but is using the same internal hardware as last year's Mate 20 Pro which brought the Kirin980 chip.

So this year, the Mate 30 Pro should bring the Kirin985 chip with 5G, upgraded AI chips, higher resolution display and some other new internals, while using the P30 Pro's camera system.

Just turn off 5G in settings, sorted.

I know the 5G roll-out here in South Africa will take forever, so when I do get my first 5G smartphone I'll just turn 5G off, as I do with 4G at home as it's spotty, our house has major dead spots due to use being in a valley.
