With some Apple products, e.g. MacBooks, an updated version comes out every so often and it's typically just a refresh -- a simple speed bump, for instance. Sometimes the update is significant as when the MacBook went to a unibody design. In any case, most people buy a Mac and keep for at least 3 years. But with the iPhone, every year brought significant change, 2G to 3G, . . . we know the story, and many users have upgraded with every new version, as I have. It worked out for me since I could sell the old version at a good price to offset the purchase price of the newer iPhone. It seems to me, just a gut feeling, that the iPad will be updated every year with significant changes like the iPhone.
If you agree with me, has that affected your buying decision, and in what way?
My current thinking goes like this: I only have a desktop, and was planning on getting the Air, so I have already set aside in mind about $1500. Out and about, I need to work on Keynote projects and Pages, which I can do on an iPad now. I don't plan on storing a big library of music on the iPad, and only plan on watching video and video podcasts, so I guess I don't need he 64GB version. Besides, I anticipate wanting next year's iPad with whatever new cool features, so I don't want to commit too much money this year.
