Knox on Note 3

Looking at a note 3 thats only had a weeks use and is a good buy, the seller said he put a custom software on and it triggered Knox. Has android 4.4.
Is this a problem, its for security? Said he could put back to 4.3 it came on.

It means he tripped Knox and it cannot be tripped back meaning it has no warranty with Samsung ever again.

Don't put 4.3 back on it. Put 4.4 touch wiz knox free (since warranty is already void) if you want the true note 3 experience without Knox since it wont work for you anymore anyways.

Seriously, if Apple ever pulls that move I'll be over them too.

Well, put a good custom recovery (TWRP) and find a nice ROM. Then enjoy!

I've read that people have been getting warranty support w/ Knox tripped phones on XDA but ymmv don't risk it.

People talk about rooting and roms with Android because it is part of the allure but for the everything person the Note III runs great out of the box. You can customize the phone to your liking with apps from the play store.

A bad flash of an official Samsung rom somehow triggered Knox for me (something in theory that shouldn't happen) and so despite never having anything other than official Samsung rom I have voided my warranty too. A Knox counter tripped phone will work perfectly but just won't run the Knox application. Most folks can live with that.. however the warranty being voided because of it is just a complete balls.

I won't be buying another Samsung device going forward if they continue with Knox.

I think this Knox mess has done it for me too. I'm very irritated with how they've handled their so called "Security features" while avoiding their quality control problems. They should focus less on trip counters and more on wiggly home buttons and defective USB 3.0 ports.

I used to love Samsung because of how easy it was to modify them and be able to revert to stock when needed. Now it's easier to do with an iPhone! Wtf?


Edit: Add in multi-touch issues and some people being turned away from warranty... Ugh. Samsung was never great at customer service only now it's far more convoluted....

It does seem useful for enterprise market, I believe that was the reasoning behind it. But the way it is implemented for everyone is rubbish, along with stories like macrumoruser's where they didn't even do anything wrong.

Like already said, one of samsungs advantages was how open the devices were, between locked bootloaders on most carrier phones and Knox , the lockdown is pretty much on par with apple now.

Except jailbreaking doesn't void apple warranty and breathing on a samsung product wrong does

If it weren't for the custom software ticker and the Knox ticker, the situation wouldbe same as ios. If the user can flash the default software and the phone functions, they should get warranty support IMO. Stop these damn tickers
