Hey all,

I've got two quick questions I think you guys can help me with. First, can my PowerBook G4 (1.67GHz and 1GB RAM) run KOTOR well? And second (the more opinionated question), would you recommend I get it, or is it dated and not worth it? If you don't think I should get it, what game do you recommend?

Thanks for your advice,

JCPH

Runs just fine on my 15"PB 1.5 with 1gb and 128VRAM.

I still play it now and then.
its still a good solid game.

Thanks, sounds like its a great game.

What macs were/are you guys running it on? Should my PowerBook (specs. in first post above) be able to handle it easily? Assuming it can, I'll definitely get KOTOR.

On a side note, it works with Leopard, right? It seems like a stupid question, but I want to be sure.

Will I need to download an update for the game? I know there're 'c' and 'd' versions of the 1.0.3 update, but since I'm not running an intel machine, do I only need 1.0.3c?

Thanks. I'm slightly confused.

If I were you, I'd just get 1.03c; 1.03d is a beta patch meant to help with Intel chips, you shouldn't need it. KOTOR is phenomenal btw. Enjoy!

Just finished my first playthrough of KOTOR on my eMac 1.42. 64 MB Radeon 9600. Your Powerbook is probably about the same and should do just fine.

1.0.3c is all you should need. The Dantooine graphics bug apparently was never fixed, even in .3d - massive, massive slowdown. But, drop your graphics specs to minimum before loading those areas, turn off grass, and you'll get through OK. Rest of the game works fine.

Is it "worth it"? Depends. I thought it was quite fun, esp. if you like SW. However, I also have a problem with paying Aspyr $50 for a somewhat-buggy port (Dantooine; plus a fair amount of random crashes, save often) that's available on PC for $20. I held out for almost 3 years, until I saw a copy on eBay for about 30 bucks, and I'd advise the same on principle.

You Mac wont run KOTOR smoothly, as even my iMac G5 with Radeon9600 runs it at about 10-20 FPS @ 1024x768 max. This game is very CPU-dependant and your 1.67 GHz G4 is slower than 2 ghz G5. KOTOR runs far better on my MacBook with GMA 950 at the same graphics settings, so it proves my point.

Its a great game though. For the first runs though it I used eMac G4 700 MHz, its was s l o w (like 2-5 FPS), but playable :D
