Short story: Purchased BTO 21" iMac online in mid-August along with iPod as part of the Back to School promo. 2 returns later and I decided on 9/12 that I've had it with BTO and 21" and within an hour at Apple Retail had a great 27". Only problem is that a) my 'replacement' was purchased after the promo ended and b) I've got this last gen iPod that I paid $200 for nearly a month ago.
On the phone this AM Apple I received conflicting info as to whether rebate will go through given my switch to retail and purchase on different date. Rebate center web site essentially says "we'll let you know" but, again, I don't want to be stuck with this thing if it doesn't work out.
After 5min chat with Apple Retail staff this evening, they placed a call to Rebate Center and, 15min later, had negotiated my rebate. Kudos to Retail staff for handling an issue entirely outside their domain. This was the icing on the cake (finally). I'm a happy camper.
