I ordered an iPod mini dock to go with my new iMac G5. It arrived much later, and I found that it didn't work. It just didn't pass power or data to my iPod. So I sent in a repair request, and, even though it did take a while (a week) I got a replacement dock. They specifically told me to not return the old defective part (even a dock, which is a relatively pricey item. I've gotten replacement earbuds before, and I can understand why they wouldn't want them sent back, but a dock is still a 50 buck value). Before and now I realize that crafty people can get FREE accessories for their iPods. The dock doesn't have to be broken, you don't even have to have a dock, but you can get one free if Apple acts as they usually do and just sends you a free one.

Maybe kudos is the wrong word. Either way, I now have a lemon - a white, expensive paperweight, along with a working dock.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Free/replacement accessories with no questions asked?
