Is the Jony Ive Mac era finally coming to an end?

Are we finally getting the true successor to the amazing 2012-2015 rMBPs?

M1X, Magsafe, 20-30hrs battery life, no touchbar, no dongles needed, new display tech? Maybe even drop the base price from having no touchbar & Apple Silicon savings?

Are we dreaming? Is this too good to be true? Will Apple reverse every single mistake they made from 2016-2019? Will Apple finally wake up from 4 years of bad Mac designs?

The only mistake on the 2016-2019 models was the keyboard, and the awful Intel chips. I’m all for MagSafe as long as the 4 Thunderbolt ports are kept. I personally love the Touch Bar on my 2018.
Leave the legacy USB-A, HDMI, SD card slots for the annals of history. It’s really not that difficult to switch to modern I/O protocols...

It's hilarious to me how much is blamed on Jony Ive now. I'm reminded of when Forstall was suddenly to blame about almost every aspect of software that people didn't like (especially on macOS, which wasn't under his control).

Anyway, Kuo doesn't specify what ports are being added, so it could just be more TB ports (which is something I've wished for since they switched). After they got rid of 3D Touch, I'm not surprised to see the TouchBar next to get axed. It just never was built upon and seemed to never be able to make it out of the Pro laptops. I wouldn't have been surprised if it got more love for being on the Air (just based on what people are always trying out in Apple Stores) but we may never get that.

Exactly. MagSafe was a feature from Apple's Ive-design era, and say what you will about his minimalism-is-better approach, it was obvious he cared about how good design helps people and MagSafe is a perfect example of useful and good design. I always wondered why Apple didn't just release a MagSafe USB-C adapter like the many kinds you can get on Amazon instead of ditching it completely. If you prescribe to the theory that every decision Apple makes is primarily profit-driven, it seems like a wasted opportunity for an optional accessory instead of a port that comes with the computer.
