The report yesterday by Ming Chi Kuo is confusing to me, he says there will be two new iPad Pro's in 2019 but then he says it would be 10.2" and a iPad Mini right guys ? So does it mean there will be also improvements to the 11" and 12.9" iPad Pro's ?

He made it clear there would be two new iPad Pros.

That seems very fast for a new iPad Pro to come out, since all of the iPad pros have been release with a 15 month gap between each new model, or a 15 month cycle. When the 2018 iPad Pro is just 12-13 months old, we will be in to 2020 already.

The next iPad Pro will release in 2020.

2015/2017/2018/2020. Make sense?

We heard the exact same silly argument last year - that it would be too quick for iPad Pro to receive a refresh in 2018. And the earliest would be 2019.

Yet, we saw a complete overhaul of iPad Pro in 2018 with Liquid Retina and Face ID. The refresh in 2019 will likely be a processor/memory/Face ID update.

Kuo is sometimes slightly off on his release timings. These be pros could already be in development but might not be released until 2020 (more in line with the slightly longer refresh cycle iPad pros have had to date)

"/2017/2018/"? But whatever...
Gen 1: Nov '15 to June '17 - 19 months. (March '16 to June '17 - 15 months)
Gen 2: June '17 to Nov '18 - 17 months.
Gen 3: Nov '18 to April '20 - 17 months or Nov '18 to June '20 - 19 months. Even 15 months would take us to Feb 2020.

An early 2020 release seems more in keeping to me, but who knows.

So what Kuo is saying is, in 2019 there will be two new iPad Pro a 10.2" and an iPad Mini ? But he is not talking about the 11" and 12.9" iPad Pro right ?

No, he stated in addition to a 10.2 iPad and iPad mini that there would be two new iPad Pro's. I'd be surprised if they released new Pro's so soon but who knows, its possible.

Yep 2017 and 2018 there is 18 month gap between them.

The 2017 model released in June 2017, the 2018 model came out in almost December of 2018.

That’s almost 19 months.

There will be no iPad Pro in 2019.

Ok first of all, the 2017 iPad Pro came out in June of 17’.. Then 18 months later then 2018 iPad Pro came out in November 29th 2018, almost December really.

The new iPad Pro is on a 7nm manufacturing process, that 7nm silicon isn’t even mainstream in the processor industry. Apple cannot go any smaller, not yet anyways. There’s no where to go! AMD, and Intel, and nvidia are still working on dropping there first 7nm silicon ever. Intel is working on 10nm lol.

If there is a new iPad Pro in 2019 it will be the worst IPC improvement ever, and most likely be a refresh of the current architectural generation the 2018 model is on.

But there won’t be a 2019 iPad lol. Because the next one will land in 2020.

Exactly right. Thanks for postin that.

People keep thinking of it like this;

I worked there 2 years, I started in 12-2018 and left 02-2019 lol.

EUV is one of the biggest advancements in litho tech. TSMC already taped out their first 7FF+ chip back in October. You can guess who this customer is. 7FF+ is expected to bring power down by 10% and a reduction in area by 17%.

Both A9 and A10 ran on the same TSMC 16nm process, yet we saw a large increase in IPC. It's absolutely silly to expect the "worst IPC improvement ever" with 7FF+.

You're comparing launch dates of major form factor refreshes for iPad Pro vs. spec increases expected for iPad Pro this year.

Apple has clearly placed renewed focus on iPad. Expecting the same 15-18 month refresh, just because it happened in the past, is a really poor argument.

If there really is a new iPad in 2019, then so be it I’ll buy one! Regardless, I feel like the one we have now “2018” is overkill. But not really overkill..Only overkill because of the iOS that is holding it back makes it this way. I myself can appreciate the power, I am not a apple fan boy and never have been. This was the first iPad I’ve ever owned, or tablet in general. I love the cpu performance in Adobe Rush, but I feel like that is the only application I have that actually does use my iPads performance. But, that is the main reason I bought it.

A file system would be nice too, and maybe we could press and hold our space bar and a cursor appears lol. Who cares if the iPad takes over a percentage of the MacBook sales. Unfortunately we are already in that direction anyways, phasing out desktops and such.

How cool would that be if we could press and hold the space bar, and a cursor appears instead of the current setup.

Regardless, I am hopeful! I really love the new iPad, I’m in the process of buying the 1TB version of what I currently have. So, whatever happens happens. I like it either way, and the iPad Pro works pretty good for me and I’m sticking with it.

iOS 13 is supposed to be a big upgrade for iPad including a new Files app, tabbed apps, and an iPad-specific home screen. It's another iOS 11 level of update for iPad. I don't think Apple would miss this opportunity to launch new iPad Pro hardware, but whether it comes Sept, Oct, or Nov is another question.

So your saying our newly released iPad Pro, that is the fastest, thinnest iPad ever without a home button and with Face ID is going to be the most short lived iPad Pro ever?

Why would apple put iPads on a 12 month cycle like phones?

The market is not nearly as large.
[doublepost=1550707314][/doublepost]I’m ready for iOS 13 then, we really need a more iPad oriented iOS. When does iOS 13 release?

Consider that the iPhone X was on the market for just over 10 months before being replaced by iPhone XS.

No other product in Apple's portfolio is as large as iPhone. But that doesn't preclude the 9.7" iPad or the Watch from getting annual updates.

From Apple's perspective, if new hardware and software are ready for a new product, they will launch it. That's what a technology leader does.

I don't think an Apple development team would say, "Tim, I know TSMC can fab our A13X on EUV and Lumentum can make the dot projector better, but we shouldn't launch a new iPad Pro yet because it hasn't been 15 months since our previous launch."

It's too thin, it bends. That's why there is a possibility of upgraded PRO models. Hope they arrive before summer.

Though I started this thread seeking clarification, noways do I think even remotely that Apple will release a iPad Pro as in successor to the 11" and 12.8" in 2019 that is way way too early !!

While I’m sure apple can do it, they may have all of there attention thinking about the new iPhones instead. I honestly just want to see a massive software overhaul for the iPad. For now at least.

And yea, there is such a thing as too thin lol. 5.9MM is pretty extreme.

Never had any bending issues with my iPad, other then being a cellular model and appearing curved starring closely down a edge. I’ve checked it 3 times since owning it with instruments, and it is still very much straight and looks straight.

As for serious bending that’s happening with the iPads, it is easy to bend one permanently by accident. I’d say only 30lbs of pressure on any area of it in a bag can bow the entire iPad. Especially the 12.9” models, they are just as thin only longer and wider.

This is just an educated guess, but im going to say at the earliest we will see new Ipad Pro's will be NEXT Spring (2020) but more likely fall of 2020.

They just put out the new pros, and yes they do have a bending issue, but so did the iPhone 6s and they dident do a recall or redesign so soon, they simply used stronger aluminum in the next generation and toted it as a "Feature"

For apple to put out a new iPad Pro this year, would piss off a ton of fans and buyers and IMHO the full potential of the current pros havent even been tapped into yet, and i fully expect them to be "Unlocked" as it were in terms of functionality with IOS 13.

What we are most likely getting is new pro features on the standard ipads like pencil support. IF apple does put out a new mini with pencil support i will be getting that alongside a 12.9 pro.

The pro will be attached to the upcomming brydge keyboard and never leave the desk, where i will get the mini in a cell configuration and be my drone flight screen and "Field Notebook" as it were, being the more portable of the two.

This way i totally reduce the risk of bending the pro which i will use in conjunction with my imac to do various photoshop style editing and the like, while the mini be my digital notepad as it were.

If the new Pros in 2020 are basically the same plus a spec bump, better cameras and stronger aluminum, then ill gladly trade in the two for an all in one device. Until then, for me i figure thats my best option.

So the select few who get mad at a 12 month refresh cycle will dictate whether Apple releases new hardware?

Since it’s most likely only going to be a processor bump and better Face ID, I hardly see it worth getting mad about.

#1. Whatever CPU improvements are they will stay at 7nm and 8 Cores that not gonna change.
#2. It’s NOT gonna be OLED based LG or Samsung would have an Order for Millions of OLED panels and we would have heard about it.
#3. Whatever improvements are offered would be minuscule.
#4. The Only way I buy a new iPad Pro is In 2021 IF the display is MicroLED or OLED based.

Nah...the worst update ever was the iPad mini 2 to 3... that will be hard to top even of the only upgrade is to an A13x processor.
