Hi there,

One careful LaCie 2 big 16TB here. The other day I received an error code 1 in my LaCie toolkit. I looked at the 2big drive and it was very hot and a electrical burning smell was noticeable. I immediately turned off and have attempted to contact LaCie support. At present they haven't got back to me.

Naturally I'm concerned for my data. The drives were functioning (for now) but I assume without adequate cooling it's on life support. I do have a (ironically LaCie) orange HDD with a full backup so I'm touch wood ok with backups.

My issue is as I bought it in 2019, does anyone know if it is still covered by the warranty? I looked at it and it says 5 years. I'm not sure that's 5 on the disks or the enclosure, or both... Hopefully it is.

If they ever get back to me I might find out but I was hoping for any info on what the procedure for this is. I'm hesitant to turn the drive on in case I make the situation worse. I'm hoping they will take back the drive, transfer my data to a new unit and ship it back to me, or is that a hopeless dream that it will be that easy:)

Many thanks

An update - LaCie replaced. But… I just noticed my drive had disconnected and went to find it raging hot 🥵 again. I can’t believe it, seriously it’s a month old. There must be a hardware fault, there’s plenty of space and airflow. Nightmare
