LaCie 320GB mobil HD!!!!

I ordred the new LaCie 320GB external mobil HD and i just got it in my handsw now. First of all this thing is tiny, its aa tall and long as normal 80GB hard drives but its a bit thicker. This tiny HD has a 320GB, yes 320GB belly which is exaclly what i needed to back up ALL my videos, ALL my music and everything else i woudl ever need.

I will post a few pictuers of it beside my MBP soonish.

Especially when you can get the 1TB Big Disc for $750.

BUT this is powered off of firewire, so you could potentially use it with a laptop out in the field (though I can't imagine how quickly it would suck your batteries). I guess you could go out and take a bunch of film outside somewhere, and then immediately put it on an external so it would be ready for editing as soon as you got back to your studio (or the airplane, or where ever).

Seems like a pretty limited use (though maybe I'm missing something), but for those who don't want an extra power cord or who want a small, high-capacity drive this could be perfect.
 
Yes its a lot of money but its what i need. I move a lot, itravel a lot and with this i can carry lots of TV shows and movies which before i could not. I used to have to carry 1 DVD box set of a TV show, 5-10 DVD's that i want to watch. This is the only option have since i need a mobil external HD with more then 200GB atleast.
 
it's two raid 0 160GB 2.5" disks, it's pretty sweet but pretty steep, i'd rather build two seperate drives myself, or three 100GB drives and RAID 5 them.

Yes i paid $800.00 for that, and i am happy i did so. I rather spend the money to make my life easyer and simpler. People pay different amounts for cars, dont they do the same thing? :)
 
Hehe. I can't imagine paying such a price for 320 gigs, but it is very cool. Personally i'd go for building my own HD raid system if I had $800 to burn. :)
 
160GB 2.5" HD's are 300 bucks a piece and it's a RAID caddy so that adds a bit, it's not cheap but it's not obscene considering the value of the parts.

Don't worry, like every other leap in drive size, you will have this full in no time and wonder why you ever ordered such a small drive.

It's one thing to hear about the drive, and it's another to actually see it next to a laptop. That thing really is small, and I can see it's allure a lot more if you travel a lot and want to have your stuff with you. Also, as Hector pointed out, the components are actually decently expensive on their own (I hadn't thought about them being 2.5" drives), so it's a better deal than it sounds like from that angle, too. I hope you enjoy your new toy, and I'm sure that most of the people here are at least a tiny bit jealous even if they would never admit it.

Wont that cost as much or more then $800?
