Other Lack of deals is a bummer

I jumped on the “free” phone wagon 2 years ago when the carriers were offering that option and was hoping something similar would crop up this time around. Sadly, no go.

I chatted with AT&T sales last night and they alluded to an upcoming “deal” either this week or next week, but then back tracked when I pressed for details.

No real point other than to say it’s a bummer.
 
they already have the buy one get one deals going on for att, Verizon ect..
They are giving you a 700$ credit towards and 8+ if you buy a new phone. im going to get in a family plan finally and take advantage of it. they'll probably let you pay the difference for a xs also if you want the higher end models just pay the difference and get a credit of 700$ towards the second phone

Many people don’t want or need a second phone and another phone line, which means the cost for me to get a new XS is now $10

This would be an okay deal if you wanted 2 phones... but... you also have to add a new line, which is an extra $120 per year.

2 years ago we replaced 2 phones with the 7 versions and it literally cost us nothing. Now, assuming we would keep the phones for 2 years, it would cost somewhere around $1540. ($1000 for first phone, $300 diff for second, $240 for new line over 2 years). That’s the part that is a bummer.

im on my own line and my mom is on her own line both out of contract on att. Verizon quoted me 182 a month for 2 lines with unlimited data and a xs max 256 gig and the iPhone 8+ for the second line.
That to me is cheaper then what im paying now if me and my mom split it. We both are paying 90$ right now. she needs an upgrade and doesnt care about which phone it is. My X is paid off. So seems like a good deal to me

Read the fine print. All of these deals are for new lines only. So unless you want to switch carriers, you’re out of luck.

Curious if retention sales rep will match to avoid churning.

Yup we are out of contract on our att plans and plan to switch to Verizon.
 
I would expect some deals from Target, Sams, etc by mid to late November with a $200 or so back in gift cards.

Anybody that things they got a free upgrade or free phone has trouble understanding what they are paying.

How so? Two years ago, I traded in two iPhone 6 phones for $650 in credits each applied to IPhone 7, applied over 24 months . I literally have not paid a cent for the 7’s since then.
 
I'm disappointed that there are no deals for those that just need ONE DAMN PHONE! I don't need a new line of service, a BOGO even without requiring a new line of service doesn't cut it either. I just need a discount or inflated trade-in for one phone.
 
Add a line is such BS. T-Mobile really dropped the ball with an opportunity to get more users onto a Band 71 iPhone.

Wondering if those deals are pending the Xr release.
 
I don’t know what world you guys live on.

Unless initial sales are really, really bad, most manufacturers and merchants don’t have deals on newly released products.

Those BOGO deals where you get a free phone but require a new line? That’s how they make that money back. Service fees.

We’re reminiscing about the iPhone 7 deals two years ago, led by T-Mobile. Trade in a 5 or 6 and get enough credits for a 7. All the other carriers had to match or face some serious churn.

So after ATT did away with the subsidies and I was no longer using a subsidized phone my bill didn’t go down 1 penny. So if my bill included the phone payment why did I have to keep paying the same amount after my 2 year contract was up?
 
The people who expect a day one sale on a new iphone without adding a line confuse me. It just launched and you already want a sale?

On Verizon I paid $75 dollars a month for my subsidized 6s ($199) and 1gb data plan for two years (2015) and after the contract was over, my bill was still $75 even though the contract was over. I canceled that plan and switched to a single phone 5gb plan for $45. Part of that $75 subsidy was a phone payment each month. You really don’t think phone providers are going to give you a flagship iPhone for $199-$299.. What happened if you default on the 2 year contract during subsidy? Your charged a early termination fee to cover the cost of the phone...
