the story last week of the lady sitting on the toilet was weird, but this is just freakish. I can't even think of the odds of this happening. The poor lady and her family.

Very tragic. You just never know when something will happen out of the blue (no pun intended) and then all of a sudden, everything you take for granted is out the window. How quickly things can happen and change. It's for reasons like this that I consciously give thanks every single day for being alive and having such a great life.

Some woman sat on a toilet for nearly two years. When her boyfriend finally called the police her skin had grafted to the seat.

That's life. It's a freak accident, but people die from those too. It doesn't all have to be natural, or accidental, or really morbid. Anyone can get Irwin'ed at any time.

Poor woman, feel bad for her. Those rays are giant, if anyone looks up pictures of them you will see what I mean. 10 foot wingspan in the larger specimens.

He was also a bit of an idiot, mind you. He breached Environmental Protection laws agreed to internationally (with regards to Antarctica only) because he simply believed the rules didn't apply to him. Sliding down the ice in Antarctica with penguins in tow isn't exactly with the "no touching" rules down there.

I liked him, but oh well, if he can take things like that so lightly, then I can take his freak death lightly.

You know, that's one of my biggest fears in life. You are right though--it is life. Say, outta curiosity, does anyone have any, uhm, stats of how many freak accidents there are daily?

very tragic about that little girl. I don't know if your link was a recent one, but she just died this past week She had spent most of the time since that accident in the hospital and had an intestine or related area transplant and it rejected.

Before we had kids, I'd hear of a kid dying and would be sad, but it's nothing like the overwhelming sadness and fear I realize now that I have 2 boys.

And one of them is 6 so I know, in a sense, of what that little girl was like ie. fav tv shows, grade 1 work, bday parties.

The first paragraph is just stating that she was not killed by the barb.

You might want to actually read the whole article. Down a few paragraphs in the same article:

Monroe County's medical examiner, Dr. Michael Hunter, determined that the cause of death was "blunt force" head injury and that the collision with the ray killed her off Marathon, about 50 miles northeast of Key West.

Hunter's report noted she suffered "multiple skull fractures and direct brain injury resulting in sudden death," said Jorge Pino, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

There are many other articles that state pretty much the same thing. When you consider the boat was going 25mph, and the ray had some speed as well, the impact was strong and it killed both of them.
