I just got a MBP 13 Retina and I'm noticing there's a lot of lag around the UI. Opening Safari windows is an absolute lag fest. Is this normal? I knew there used to be issues regarding the Retina screen but I figured they got that sorted.

How do you define lag? I've got an older macbook pro, late 2011, with hi res option, and it's lightning fast on the UI with integrated or discrete graphics mode.

By lag I mean it basically stutters. When I click on new window in safarii, the animation that launches the new window isn't smooth. When I scroll in iTunes on the "For You" section, that scrolling there isn't smooth at all. In a bunch of places I feel like it stutters. It's not an internet issue. It's more about opening the application itself rather than opening up a webpage.

If you grab the safari window and drag it around, does it stutter? To me, that would be UI lag, not anything to do with in-app conditions.

I've had safari stall due to poor internet. It's really not the best when it comes to bad internet.
