Anyone seem to notice this? When transitioning between full screen apps/spaces there seems to be a fraction of a second for the screen to 'slow down' into place, unlike in Lion. During this slow transition you can't execute any actions.

It seems to induce a little bit of motion sickness as well. Any ideas on how to remedy this or is it just part of the core animation?

Re: Laggy transition between spaces in Mountain Lion

I am also seeing a laggy transition between spaces in Mac OS X Mountain Lion. It's very annoying, since you can't do anything until the space is "set" and still. If you click on a dock icon for an application that is on another space, this doesn't happen. It only happens when switching between spaces using the control+ arrow keys.

Any ideas how to fix this?

laggy transition

this has been a complaint of mine since Lion. That slow down during the transitions is useless and frustrating.

I noticed this last year when upgrading to Lion. Transitions between spaces were much faster in Snow Leopard.

Doesn't work in ML

I'm on the top tier 2012 11" Macbook Air. Never was an issue with Lion. This has to be an animation change in ML.

Further testing seems that this happens when you swipe and let go, so it's the "kinematics" (if that's the right word to describe it) of the animation.

If you drag it all the way over there isn't the issue but no one swipes that way.

it's how fast you swipe!

Oh wow, you're right. If you swipe faster, the spaces change much faster.
But you still can't do anything about using the control + arrow keys command...that still has a slow animation.

I found an app called TotalSpaces which allows you to have much faster animations when switching spaces, as well as a few other tricks, like bringing back a grid of spaces like in Snow Leopard. I just installed it on my Mountain Lion and it works just fine!

Here's a link to the app download page: http://totalspaces.binaryage.com/

Post your system specs please, people.

This has nothing to do with hardware. It is slowed down on purpose. If I use Ctrl + desktop number its very fast, like it should be. If I use Ctrl + Arrow, it starts out fast and then slows down nearing completion. Its ridiculous. I get some people might consider that cool when swiping fast or slow, but if I'm using the keyboard, it should be fast. At the very least it should be configurable.

Apologies, I thought it could be a low memory situation for older Macs initially. It's happening to me too. I checked what you wrote, same here. I'm quite surprised Apple let this out.

I don't think I have the problem.. Seems the same as on Lion to me.

I'm using a 2011 iMac.

EDIT

Are you guys talking about the way it takes a bit too long for the screen to stop moving and for you to be able to actually do something? Because if you are, then yeah I get that as well. It would be nice if sped it up by a second.

Yes, that is what we are talking about. I have tried to force myself to use the number instead of arrows, and for the most part I do, but it shouldn't be so inconsistent. So many things are now in OS X, especially relating to Mission Control.

This slowdown is very annoying. I skipped Lion because I heard bad things about launchpad and mission control. After two days with Mountain Lion I might have go back to Snow Leopard. This new system is counter productive and slows down my workflow. It is a mess compared to expose & spaces on Snow Leopard.

This "feature" annoys me, too. I use multiple windows of Numbers in fullscreen. Now every time I switch between them to write something, it takes a second or two to do so. Really, really annoying and time wasting.

This slowdown at the end is SO annoying,
Their must be a way to make it faster with a terminal command just like the window magnifying thing when opening a new app...
Please help :)

Has anyone found a solution yet? I'm noticing this problem too and I've been looking for a solution for a few days now.

My observation is that if you use two finger swiping it is smooth. However of you swipe with three fingers it lags. Anyone else experience the same?

Yay, this has been fixed in 10.8.2. Now the transition is much faster like it use to be in previous versions of OS X. Someone needs to tell Apple that animations are solely for the sake of offering a visual cue to what is happening, they're not an end in themselves.
