I have only purchased two external hard drives in my life. One, the 160GB CrossFire, died within the month I bought it due to unknown reasons. The second, A 320GB 3.5" SATA2 Seagate with high rated $35 external enclosure, died after one day of use.

I honestly just got this thing two days ago and now it's not working(clicky noise same as the crossfire).

I was aware of the importance of buying a hard drive from a reputable brand and source after my CrossFire died, but it seems I am just a very unlucky person. I had backed up a bunch of pictures/videos/music to make temporary room on my ibook's hard drive, but the Seagate crashed before I was able to load the data back to my internal drive. I don't want to have to pay for data retrieval, but I also don't want to have to go through all this warranty crap and buy a new hard drive that will just crash again.

Anyway, I'm depressed. Seagate is "supposed" to be a wonderful brand. Should I just send it back and get a new one? What are the odds that one will crash as well?

heeellp. :(

Go to www.cnet.com and if you buy a new external HD read reviews there first, they will tell you the odds.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck SteveRichardson. :( Seagate is supposed to be a good, reliable brand- I would return yours and try your luck with a new one. :)
