My 3 yrs old iPad Pro 12.9 (4th gen, 2020) has yellow tints on the edges of the screen, and the positions of the tints are just like this:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ipad-pro-10-5-yellow-bands-across-the-edges.2354033/
although mine is not as severe as the one in the link.

I think it is almost certainly due to the aging backlights of the LCD, but it is weird because my much older devices with LCD screens do not have this problem.

As I searched through the forums and Google, I found out that not a few iPad Pros from a few generations ago (e.g., iPad Pro 12.9 3rd, 4rd gen; iPad Pro 10.9 ... ) have this exact same issue.
So it has led me to think that laminated LCDs are more susceptible to the device's heat than non-laminated LCDs are, potentially resulting in the early development of such an aging phenomenon.

So, although I was originally thinking of buying a new iPad Pro 11 (M2), I'm hesitating to do so, because the iPad Pro 11, which also has a laminated LCD, may have the same issue within a few years.

What's your take on this?

I tend to think there's some truth to this. Over the years reading posts about screen issues on this forum, it's almost always laminated displays. From spots, yellow bands, discolorization, edge issues, and other anomalies. I've always chosen the regular (base) non-laminated iPad not only as a cost saver but for this issue. For me, the quality of the display visually is about the same anyway.

Yes, I'm increasingly feeling that way too. the iPad is all about the screen, so if laminated displays are more susceptible to those issues, it would be very unfortunate.

No issues with my iPad Air 4. This is why I have AppleCare on my devices. I don’t have to worry about something going wrong.
