I was talking to my dad, and we began talking about WAN and LAN ports on the airport base station... i was just wandering, whats the difference of LAN and WAN and how do you know wich should be used and when???

thanks

LAN= Local Area Network This is for your local computers

WAN= Wide Area Network This is to connect to the internet (cablemodem or dsl)

The WAN port is only used for your uplink, whether that be your cable modem, DSL modem or a larger network.

The LAN port is the downstream port to your local home network for use with CAT 5 cables.
