I think thats what they are called, where a bunch of people get togather, hauling there laptops, even desktops around and play a computer game..well anybody still do them?

Sure, although a lot just use wifi and Internet too these days. But there is still plenty of life in LAN parties if you got the right group(s).

Didn't the Internet sort of kill that sort of thing?

The Internet cannot emulate 20 odd computers in one house playing online. Being in the same rooms makes a big difference to the atmosphere compared to listening to a low quality audio feed over team speak!

Once you have had a good LAN party you will know what I mean. :)

My friends and I do this every couple of months just with Team Fortress 2 since it's free and everyone can easily get a copy. Essentially we are all just online connected via wireless but the banter is great and the atmosphere sure beats sitting in your house alone talking on voice chat.

Yeah, my mates and I still hold a LAN Party every few months! We like to play L4D2 or maybe even FEAR.
The problem is, we always seem to spend about half of the time trying to set things up and get them working. If only everyone bought a copy of the game!

yeah, a couple of my friends and I used to play UT everynow and then. I'll have to talk with them to get it started back up.
