This happens whenever i shoot a video in landscape. When I go into photos app to playback the video (recorded in landscape) and hold the iphone in landscape mode to see the video the way it was shot the phone auto rotates the video into portrait mode. It seems that if I shot the video in landscape it would be the correct orientation to play it back. Anyway to fix this?

Make sure the iPhone is in landscape orientation BEFORE starting the camera. There’s a video rotating app on the App Store
