Do they have any applications for Iphone/Ipod touch that teach you a language? I want to learn more about words and sentence construction for Japanese. I know Hiragana and Katakana characters as well as a words and a few phrases but thats about it.

I've seen a bunch of language apps including Chinese but no Japanese yet...

Off topic but have you tried playing with the International keyboard settings to get the Japanese keyboard enabled? I too know the kanas and some words/phrases/sentence structure and I like to drive my husband nuts by writing his Christmas lists in Katakana.. So I tried to see if I'd be able to do lists in Notes in Katakana but I could not really figure out the keyboard... It shows Hirigana characters but it also does that predictive typing (if you think it is bad in English try using it with another language, ick)... It seems like the only way to get Katakana is to type a couple chars until it realizes you aren't spelling a Japanese word.. I could not figure out how to force it to switch to Katakana and I'm not sure if a Google search will find any English results :)

When you start typing in Japanese, several "guesses" for the word you are typing pop up, with an arrow at the end. Tap the arrow, and you get an entire page of word choices. The katakana for the syllables you just typed are usually in the top two rows.

The fastest way to input katakana seems to be to just ignore any word suggestions and keep typing until you are finished with a word or phrase, by which time the converter would usually have given up trying to figure out what you are typing and reverted to katakana. But if you need to convert a few syllables to katakana, hit the arrow as I explained above.

Looking for a good app to learn Korean myself. Can read and I can speak very little, but I need vocabulary and grammar.

Try SuperMemo application. You can creat your own course and learn what you need. I use it with my Portugese classes :)

Japanese Flip - great for vocabulary.

A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar Builder - basic sentence structures

Japanese - by codefromtokyo, lots of great reference material

iKanji - best app for learning kanji

Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary - the best kanji reference for beginners and intermediates.

The Wisdom Japanese-English English-Japanese dictionary. Best reference for new words!

Pocket Japanese - clunky interface, decent lessons, don't send them your email address though, you'll get a load of ads in your inbox for special deals.
