Given that the price of Yonah will most likely drop when Merom starts to ship in quantity (doesn't seem to be really out there yet), what would you most like to see?
Larger hard drive - 100 gigs
Faster hard drive - 7,200 rpm
1 Gig ram as standard
Better gpu
Speed bump (Yonah) to 2.13 and 2.33
Price drop of €100
Change to Merom processor (whatever speed)
Include iWork as standard
Firewire 800
Dual Layer DVD

Personally I'd like to see a price drop, and maybe a speed bump if there's enough money left over, but I think the market reality is that the case to move to Merom is compelling if Apple is to keep up the momentum that it has generated with the changeover to Intel.

Of course I'd love to see all of them, but we live in the real world.

(Poll to come)

you asked so here is my ideal laptop:

1-The new merom chip at fastest speed available.
2-Fast DDR Ram (1 gb minimum, probably get 2 gb, would love apple to get their prices to sane levels)
3-Killer graphics chip option. have a great level one stock on MBP, but have option for a killer 512 mb fastest avail GPU chip for laptop.
4- Have 120 gb stock hd, with option for 160 GB laptop drive or even the upcoming 200 gb drives coming this fall.
5- Batteries that won't explode
6- Blu-ray drive, capable of reading movies and recording to bluray as well
7- HDMI output for external tv playback in HD.
8- better airport type system
9- carbon fiber case
10- and basically a laptop which wont burn me

oh yeah and a airplane/auto power adapter for the macsafe system powering the new BMP.

i voted price drop, my MBP is plenty fast enough for me, of course we'd like to see all of those things at one point or another.

A more resilient case, kinda like the older clamshell laptops. I feel bad seeing those "I scratched/dented my laptop" posts. I think a carbon fiber case mentioned above is a good idea, maybe a fiberglass one. A "CarbonBook" or something.

Also, I really liked the handles on the old clamshells. I installed a carry handle on my PowerBook but I'd like one built in on the new laptops.

Obviously you're not a golfer.
my ideal merom laptop announcement would be (pardon me if some of these are off on the names a bit - you know what i mean)

-17" macbook pro
-1680x1050 matte screen
-top of the line C2D (2.33ghz i think?)
-1GB ram standard, supports 4GB
-120Gb 7200 HD standard, 160GB 7200 HD upgrade option
-256 mb x1800 video, 512mb option
-all the same ports that are on there now
-user upgradeable drive (like the macbooks)
-isight/frontrow/remote
-included extra battery
-smaller power brick (not gonna happen tho)
-dual layer superdrive

so basically how it is now with just bigger/better specs. a new case would be cool but i like the aluminum cases as they are. and the other thing i would like to see is the "unknown new cool thing" - tho i do not know what that would be.

Something under 3.5 pounds with more than 5 hours of battery. I'm more than prepared to sacrifice speed for this. Move the optical drive off the system to drop the weight. Oh, and it should have a PowerBook/MacBook Pro keyboard.

Essentially, a Thinkpad X (or Fujitsu P) series that runs OS X.

Hrm.. how about:
12-13" LCD
2 usb/1FW
Core Duo LV @1.5-1.83 or ULV @ 1.2
included optical drive add on

I'd like to see something that:
1-is cooler so it can be called a true laptop
2-battery life to be 5+ hours
3-cheaper

What I dream they'd include but won't ever hold my breath:
1-DVR ala Qosimo
2-Quad core processors (won't be dreaming till around 2010 about this one. Hopefully I get surprised.)

Id like to see a more tablet based laptop, work the same but essentially the screen and keyboards are in the opposite positions, eg keyboard is a super thin touch sensitive lid for a tablet styled laptop, so i could work directly to the screen, like a drawing tablet, or use the keyboard and a mouse,

id also like to see a memory card adapter on the current range, i hate carrying cables.

I just wish they had a better GPU on the Macbook so that I could play a few games. Not a big deal but then I think I would have the perfect computer for me.

1 GB RAM standard. OS X is still usable even with the lackluster GPU, but not with the paltry amount of memory. Of course, I think the GMA 950 should be replaced with an integrated GPU that can do hardware T&L (X3000 maybe). But I wouldn't want to pay extra for a dedicated GPU chip that I won't use.

The polls speak for themselves. There is nothing in a laptop that depreciatres or becomes obsolete faster than its GPU. And you thought Ford cars depreciated faster than its monthly payments :p

should have been a multiple choice poll... :p

I reckon they need more RAM, and bigger HDDs, but for the average user, i reckon they are perfect as they are. For someone who is just doing word docs and the like, they are far more powerful than they need. Price drops would be nice.

What i want:
much bigger HDDs (160-200GB area)
faster chips (2.33, 2.66GHz)
more RAM (1GB standard, up to 4GB with 2*2GB sticks)
GPU with grunt (512MB VRAM)
liquid cooling system (the non-leaking variety)
FW 400, 800 and 1600 (one of each)
2 batteries (you will need them!)

i'll pay in wishful thinking :p

Why have 2 batteries? Might as well through in 2 EXPANSION SLOTS! In either of them you can have either an:

1) extra battery
2) extra hard drive
3) extra dvd burner
