Laptop combination lock security - insert into SD card slot

Hi i will soon be travelling and have ordered a combination laptop lock to prevent theft of my macbook air (13 inch 2012).
I bought it thinking it would have to go into a little slot and lock (which sticks onto the laptop outside surface).
But actually it fits and locks securely into the SD card slot. Which is a much better option. But im wondering if this would damage the sd card slot in anyway? It doesnt look like the lock mechanism would reach the metal parts where it reads the sd card (no idea what they're called) anyone have any idea?? Ive uploaded some photos to show what i mean

Anything inserted into the SD Card or USB port can be damaged if you bend it enough in one direction (rocking it back and forth)

Looks like the lock mechanism is made for a Kensington slot rather than a SD card slot.

I have the same cable for my Dell laptop.

It does. The OP is saying that your supposed to stick that round thing onto the laptop, then the cable locks onto the round thing.

He has found that the cable actually fits into the SD slot, although it's not made for that.

In any case, it's a bad idea. The SD slot will have lots of slop when the cable is connected. A thief could easily get the cable out of that slot, especially if he doesn't care about damaging the case.

The round thing is probably not that great of an idea either. A heat gun could easily melt the glue.

I guess if you're really only interested in keeping the opportunistic thief from getting your stuff, either method would work. But a determined thief would get through this in a heartbeat.
