See my recent lapinator review. I haven't used the Targus or anything else, but I like the lapinator (although it does seem perhaps a tad thicker)...

Thanks David, I really appreciate the link. In terms of the ergonomics, the lapinator is on my short list. The one from ambir is appealing due to the mini-mouse pad that sticks out of the side.

Decisions decisions.

Has anyone used this, or something similar?

I saw one like it at Office Depot, and almost picked it up. It looks to be a bit too long to use all the time, like on an airplane.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Darren
I used that Targus model when I am travelling (like today till this Wednesday). It can be used either as a "table" or "raiser." I usually fold that model into two, adjusting the angle with the simple mechanism which is positioned on the bottom side.

Also, I used Targus's USB powered chil pad. But, the chip pad seems a little slimsy if you squeeze that in the tight bag. So, I usually take the former with me.

Do you find the "table" mode too wide?

In all the pictures I see, it seems like you are giving your notebook wings.

If you use this as a "table mode," you would have enough room on the both sides of the notebook computer for either the mouse or external mobile hard drive.

My set up during business travel is to carry 3 notbooks (company-issued Dell, Tablet PC, and 12" iBook). So, I don't have enough space on the hotel room's desk and usually use it the "raise mode." This mode will give you extra room below the notebook for enhanced air flow. My iBook does not kick up fan often.

If you use it as a table mode, the width is about 2 iBooks side by side.

If you are the type of person who uses the computer in bed, this Targus product may fit the bill.

I am typing this on my iBook using this Targus product now.

In bed right now, with the laptop, so I guess it may fit the bill :)

Thanks for the in-depth coverage.

FYI, I just purchased one of these:

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=51280308&Pn=HP_Mobile_Lapdesk

Although, I purchased it from buy.com, as a rebranded Xbrand, or maybe Xbrand rebrands them, I actually have no clue.

Comp USA says it is from Micro Innovations, so we'll see. It was $26 at buy.com, so I grabbed one. Should be here later this week. I'll post a review once I've used it for a few days.

That thing is bulkier than the Targus model. I saw it at the store as well. After comparing the both models, I went for Targus as I was able to use it for 2 modes (table and raised).

I am usually never happy with my purchases, so maybe I'll have to head to Office Depot and pick up the Targus model as well, if this one proves out wrong.

It is definately bigger, so we'll have to see if I can even fit it in my backpack.

Thanks for the info
