I'm going a summer program abroad at England to study for a couple months soon and I have a dilemma of which laptop to bring. I have an old 12" powerbook and a new mbp 2.2 i just bought for college in the fall. The mbp is obviously much faster with a bigger screen, etc, so it would be better for studying, but the powerbook is more portable. Obviously I bought the mbp to use it, but it is brand new so I'm a bit uncertain about traveling with it. Which should I bring?

what are the specs of the powerbook? I'd max out the ram and hard drive in that and take it.

The MBP might not be the ideal notebook to take if you're gonna be moving around a lot. For that purpose a MB would fit the bill more appropriately. I would suggest that you go with the Powerbook instead of the MBP.

Do you see yourself talking to friends/family w/the isight of the MBP?

If not then I would take the PB for its small form factor and you won't be distracted by any latest intel mac games that may or may not come out.
